Allergies and skin sensitivities with facial care products
I too have been through many types of skin care products before finding some that are ok with my body. Acne, eczema, uneven pigmentation, and dry skin are all personal issues I have had in my skincare journey. I finally ended up making my own products for myself and have finally found a good balance, so that’s why I decided to take my skin care public. My skincare products are not for everyone, but I have found the fewer ingredients, the better.
Let’s talk about some of the main additives that cause reactions in skincare. We will look at different ingredients and why they may or may not be the best for you. This week let’s talk about a big one: Fragrance. Fragrance can be a variety of natural or synthetic compounds. It may give you a sense of well-being and increase your skincare experience, or it may dry out the skin and make your eyes run (I tend to have the latter experience). If you like the added smell to a product, look for products that use essential oils, not fragrance. For those who are extra sensitive, like me and my mum, we may even have to go lightly on the essential oils or none at all. Being the sensitive person I am, I like to get my aroma satisfaction through sprays or toners that I make will different hydrosols (hydrosol is the leftover water after making an essential oil), distilled water, and a few drops of whatever essential oil sounds good to me. Play around, do some research, and see what works for you!
